paraxylene

Paraxylene prices were seen falling sharply in Europe while they continued the downward trend in Asian markets. Supplies were gradually expanding, thus imposing downward pressure on paraxylene values.

ethylene

Ethylene prices gained strong support from the rising crude oil values which had made naphtha prices spurt this week. While oil prices were inching towards US$70 a barrel mark, naphtha was heading towards the US$600 a ton level.

benzene

Benzene prices softened in USA markets but strengthened in Asian and European markets this week. Prices are well supported by strong crude oil values, but downstream demand, particularly styrene sector was limiting the push in benzene values.

propylene

Propylene prices declined this week despite crude oil prices inching towards the US$70 a barrel mark. Offers from South Korea were pegged in the range of US$764-766 a ton FOB, losing US$35 from the previous weeks close. Selling ideas for July propylene were at US$800 a ton FOB Korea and US$850-860 a ton CFR Taiwan, while buying ideas were at US$780 a ton FOB Korea.

naphtha

Naphtha prices increased sharply this week in Asia and Europe as crude oil prices were inching towards the US$70 a barrel mark. In Asia, July H1 price indications were pegged at US$591.50-592.50 a ton CFR Japan, up US$83 from its previous weeks close. July H2 settled at US$587.50-588.50, up US$80 a ton. The H1 August indication was also pegged at US$584.50-585.50 a ton CFR Japan.

crude oil

Crude oil prices jumped above US$66 per barrel on strengthening economic data which suggested that the economic downturn was easing. The influential inventories data of U.S. tumbled by 5.4 million barrels during the week, was highly supportive. The OPECs decision to hold oil production steady also helped prop up prices. The group kept its output targets unchanged as expected, betting on a strengthening world economy and tentative signs of increased demand
