Thailand’s Economy Grew 3.5% in Third Quarter, Missing Estimates on Flood
Thailand’s gross domestic product rose 3.5 percent in the three months through September from a year earlier, the National Economic and Social Development Board said in Bangkok today. The median of 11 estimates in a Bloomberg News survey was for a 4.5 percent gain.
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Thailand's economy grew 3.5% in the third quarter from the year-earlier period, the government reported Monday. The results showed slower-than-expected expansion in the quarter before dramatic floods shut down large swathes of industry and disrupted agriculture, prompting the government to cut its economic growth forecast to 1.5% this year from its previous range of 3.5% to 4% issued in August. Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Board issued the revised forecasts along with the quarterly gross domestic product data. A survey by Dow Jones Newswires had tipped a year-on-year expansion of 4.4% for the July-to-September period
