Tycoons boost stocks

Leading investors gave stock futures some help by revealing recent buys in several big corporate names. Hedge-fund manager Edward Lampert's ESL Investments bought an $800 million stake in Citigroup, sending the bank's stock higher after hours. Investment guru Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway disclosed in a regulatory filing that it increased its stake in Dow component Johnson & Johnson and invested in insurance giant Wellpoint. Buffett also bought stakes in Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern, building on his recent push into railroads. (CNNMoney.com) Activist investor Carl Icahn followed Buffett's lead, revealing that he held a $122 million stake in CSX Corp., the third largest U.S. railroad. "A lot of smart people" are looking into railroads these days, said independent analyst Tony Hatch. (Bloomberg)
